#100happydays – Day Twenty Seven

Wow. What a first day in paradise. Action packed, for sure.
To start? A glorious start with beautiful weather, and scenic walk down to the ocean for coffee. Note to self: this is the best way to start your day.

A stroll down to the rocks… Don’t mind my pasty skin, I’m still working on my tan. Feeling a bit like Edward Cullen in the sunshine these days. Yikes.

The afternoon is when things got wild. I accompanied Brett to a session with HOPE Services: Housing & Homeless Shelter at their local playground built by Habitat For Humanity. We spent the next three hours playing, tutoring, and connecting with children aged 3-12. It was such a humbling experience, as at the end of the day, all each child wants and deserves is love, affection and attention. I drew pictures of Canadian wildlife with five year old Newla, played kickball with Aron who’s eleven years old, picked wild flowers growing off the banyan trees with three year old Sinsa, and helped Jasmine, aged 12, with her long division homework. And yes, I still remember my long division – yes!

After that, I was definitely tired. But, no time to relax – we were off to have dinner with a local family. Maybe not the most traditional Hawaiian fare, but seeing delivery pizza after burning all that energy with those kids – the pizza was a delight to see. Until next time –

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s adventures!
